Sail Rock is regarded as one of the best dive sites the gulf of Thailanhas to offer. It is a gigantic rock formation that rises from the sea bed, up to and above the surface. As it is the only formation for miles around it attracts a lot of small aquatic life which in turn attracts the bigger stuff. You will be greeted by an abundance of tropical reef fish, hard and soft corals and plenty of bigger fish such as chevron barracuda, giant groupers and various types of trevally. It is often visited by whale sharks and is the seasonal home to other shark species besides.
It also boasts a natural submerged vertical swim-through or “chimney” beginning at about 6m and finishing at 19m. Suitable for both advanced and open water divers each trip usually includes lunch, drinks and light refreshments, 2-3 dives (2 at sail rock and 1 at another site on the way back) and takes 1 whole day. As Sail Rock is a bit further away from the island it is not visited on a daily basis however, some dive centres run weekly trips and most will run a trip if enough people are willing to go (usually 10-12 people but it depends on the dive centre).
