Yoga, originating from the sanskrit word "Yoke" means to unite or join. In the practice of Yoga we unite our mind and our body, our breath, and our connection to all living things infinate and beyond. As more people are seeking balance from the stress of daily life, yoga has been gaining in popularity worldwide. Year after year more people incorporate Yoga into thier routines and therefore seek a place to practice whilst on holiday. Koh Tao Yoga - come and try it out.
The Island has several studios spread throughout the corners of the island offering a variety of courses and daily drop-in classes. Hatha, modified Ashtanga, Yin yoga, restorative yoga and dynamic flow is part of the weekly schedule. Classes are usually appropriate for all levels, but special beginners only courses are offered too. One on one time is available for those who want the extra attention, and workshops are also offered from time to time. Most studios offer two drop-in classes daily and all provide yoga mats and props for those passing through. Meditation, pranayama (breathing exercises), and deep relaxation is usually part of a complete Yoga class leaving you rejuvinated and connected.
Several travellers buy packages during their stay on Koh Tao, finding themselves practicing almost daily. Others come for a first time lesson to see what the whole practice is all about. The island is home to some extremely experienced and qualified teachers who would be happy to talk to you pre-post class and answer any questions you may have with the practice. Never tried Yoga before? Don't get intimidated by the super-flexible who have been practicing for several years. Always remember it is about being present and that getting into a pose is only a bonus, not a necessity. Give it a chance, your body will thank you for it later.
For those experienced yogis, a challenge can always still be found in the classes offered around the island. There is always more to learn and what a better place to grow than on a tropical paradise with blue water as far as the eye can see. Feel and live the spirit of Koh Tao.
"Through sustained focus and meditation on our patterns, habits, and conditioning, we gain knowledge and understanding of our past and how we can change the patterns that aren’t serving us to live more freely and fully.” ~ Yoga Sutra III.18
